Design & Construction of a Kayak Launch Platform for City of Ryde
Baker Built was engaged by the City of Ryde to deliver a purpose-built kayak launch facility on the Parramatta River, retrofitted to an existing concrete pontoon. The project was designed to enhance community access to the waterway and improve usability for people of all experience levels, including those with limited mobility.
Constructed with durable, marine-grade materials, the installation prioritised safety, functionality, and environmental integration. Key features included a secure non-slip walking surface, new kayak tie-off points, and a structural platform welded directly to a metal band. A thick rubber buffer was installed at key contact points to protect equipment and users, while floating devices and GRP mini mesh grating were incorporated to maintain long-term platform stability.
This infrastructure upgrade provides the local community with a low-risk, user-friendly entry point to the river while ensuring long-term durability with minimal maintenance. The final outcome balances practical performance with visual harmony along the foreshore.
