Improving Access and Safety Through Thoughtful, Compliant Design
Baker Built was engaged by the NSW Department of Education to complete a full-scale upgrade of the access infrastructure at Merriwa Central School. This project aimed to enhance site-wide accessibility while complying with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), ultimately improving both safety and usability for all students, staff, and visitors.
The works involved the removal and replacement of failed or non-compliant footpaths and stairs, the design and construction of new DDA-compliant ramps with safety handrails, and comprehensive landscaping remediation to tie the new elements into the existing environment. The use of high-quality, durable materials ensures long-term performance and low maintenance requirements.
Throughout the build, Baker Built coordinated works carefully around school operations to avoid disruption during term time. Demolition waste was removed and disposed of in line with strict environmental guidelines, and all site activities adhered to WHS and DDA compliance protocols.
The result is a safer, more accessible campus with visually cohesive upgrades that reflect Baker Built’s commitment to inclusive, compliant, and practical construction outcomes.
