Upgraded Facilities That Prioritise Student Safety & Maintenance
Baker Built was engaged by Swansea High School to redevelop a run-down amenities block that had drawn concern from parents, staff, and students. The goal was to deliver a safer, more functional facility that aligned with OHS requirements and reduced social issues linked to large shared bathrooms.
The project involved converting a large dual bathroom space into two completely separate toilet blocks, each with eight individual stalls to minimise gatherings. Baker Built successfully advocated for the inclusion of epoxy flooring in the EFSG (Education Facilities Standards and Guidelines), supporting its use with documentation and warranties. This durable surface helped ensure compliance, hygiene, and ease of maintenance.
Baker Built also redesigned key components of the layout — such as the inclusion of a service corridor and raised external sewer access — to make future maintenance easier and minimise disruption to school operations. The team proposed several internal improvements to enhance accessibility, cleaning, and functionality — all of which were approved by the school and implemented.

This project saw the full transformation of a dated and non-compliant school bathroom facility. Key upgrades included epoxy flooring, aluminium louvre systems, a new service corridor for external pipe access, and strategic grout selections for long-term graffiti resistance. The result is a significantly improved space that better serves the needs of both students and school staff.
